What does it mean to live an authentic life?
So I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I am on this mission to live authentically – and my goal is to empower you as well. That sounds like it’s super fun and easy – but what does it really mean to live an authentic life?
My understanding of living authentically is the process of continually learning about yourself, and then consistently choosing what’s best for you. However you want to live your truth, you’re doing it from a place of understanding of your own why… and consistently choosing to act with love for yourself.
Self-awareness is the first step.
Acknowledging how your feeling is the best way to get to know yourself better and truly step into your power.
Once you know how you feel, then you can choose how you want to act on it!
Feeling happy? Great. Follow it.
Feeling Anxious? Cool. Acknowledge it and reflect.
Feeling sad? Grab some tissues and let it out.
Once you can acknowledge how you feel you can then move on to the next step.
Respect How You’re Feeling
It’s extremely easy to dismiss how you feel, but once you can acknowledge and accept how you’re feeling, you can start to follow where they guide you.
You can set boundaries and goals that align with what feels good rather than what you think should be good.
Meet Yourself with Self-Compassion
Treat yourself how you would treat your closest friends.
You would never tell your friends not to express themselves, speak their truth, and dismiss their own feelings – so why would you do that to yourself.
Self-compassion can be the ultimate tool in your toolbox – but just like any practice, it takes practice.
Living authentically isn’t a destination, it’s a journey, and on that journey there are choices. You may not always make the right choice, but acknowledging your feelings, following what feels right, and meeting yourself with kindness are all steps you can take to take to live more authentically.
Let me know what you think and if there are any things that you do to live authentically!
